Employment

Compared to most other countries, Sweden has a high employment rate. One important reason for this is that women to a high degree participate in the labour force.
The employment rate reflects the proportion of employed adults within the working-age population. In Sweden, this rate saw significant growth during the 1960s and 1970s, largely driven by the increased participation of women in the labor market, which helped to narrow the gap between male and female employment. In more recent years, the employment rate experienced a temporary decline during the financial crisis of 2008-2009. However, it has since rebounded, reaching levels even higher than those observed before the crisis.
